The 100-day assessment: «I place great value on employees acting in a self-responsible manner.»

Since early December 2024, Claude Bruderer has been part of the Quickmail team. In this 100-day interview, he shares his impressions as CEO of Quickmail Planzer AG.

He talks about the company's unique culture, the challenges of the past months, and his vision for the future. He discusses how Quickmail is evolving, the opportunities in the market, and why trust is a key element of his leadership.

Welcome to the team, Claude. How did you experience your first 100 days at Quickmail?

From day one, I felt at home at Quickmail. The warmth and goodwill of my colleagues were immediately noticeable, not only within Quickmail but also in the collaboration with the Planzer Group. This open and friendly atmosphere was a pleasant surprise and a great source of motivation for me. It is truly impressive to see the passion and commitment that each individual brings to their work.

How would you describe the culture at Quickmail in 3 words?

If I had to describe Quickmail in three words, they would be: dynamic, efficient and personal.

  • Dynamic, because the company is constantly evolving, creating new solutions and adapting flexibly to the market.
  • Efficient, as Quickmail delivers millions of shipments across Switzerland with lean, optimised processes.
  • Personal, because Quickmail is not an anonymous corporation, but a company that cultivates direct and respectful contact both internally and with customers.

Our corporate culture is characterised by flat hierarchies, short decision-making paths and a collaborative approach at eye level. Here, every opinion and every idea counts.

What challenges did you identify in the first few weeks?

The last few years have been challenging for Quickmail, marked by changes in ownership and a new management team. Now, stability has returned. I see this as a crucial factor, both for our employees and for our customers.

With the integration of Planzer's family-oriented corporate culture, Quickmail's culture is also changing in that direction. In addition, we have a very strong partner in Planzer , with whom we want to continue to grow and expand our service offering. Our goal is to provide our customers with a comprehensive service from a single source.

What does good leadership mean to you? And how do you define your role as a leader?

As CEO, I see my main task as providing the company with a clear vision and defining the strategic steps to achieve it. Trust is a central element of my leadership style. I place great value on employees acting autonomously and making decisions based on their expertise.

Many of our long-serving employees have developed within the company: from delivery to management level. This shows that our corporate culture is based on trust and long-term commitment.

How is the cooperation with Quickmail customers?

Our work begins with understanding the needs of our customers. Based on that, we want to work together to find solutions and ensure that every consignment arrives on time in the letterbox.

Since its founding in 2009, we have had the catchphrase: "Every consignment counts." That is still true – to this day!

While Quickmail has always worked closely with mail order companies and non-profit organisations, we want to expand into new customer segments in the future. We are currently developing exciting new offers to expand our portfolio, but as of today it is still to early to go into details.

Why should a company choose Quickmail as a delivery partner?

There are a number of good reasons! First of all, we can offer an optimal price-performance ratio with our weekly delivery and efficient processes. We offer a very good service at a fair price. This applies to the delivery of addressed, partially addressed and unaddressed consignments throughout Switzerland.

But we offer even more. Thanks to our strong partnership with Planzer, we provide truly comprehensive services from a single source. Upon request, we handle everything from address management and pick-up to sorting and returns processing. This service is available to both large-scale shippers and SMEs.

And let’s not forget: Sending with Quickmail strengthens competition in the Swiss postal market while also creating over 3,000 part-time jobs across Switzerland. This allows a wide range of people – from students to pensioners, and from homemakers to shift workers – to earn a fair and flexible income close to home.

The Swiss postal market has been undergoing profound change for a long time. The volume of letters is declining. What changes and trends are affecting the industry?

That’s true. Just like in the rest of the world, letter volumes are declining in Switzerland. However, with 1.5 billion consignments per year, there is still plenty of potential for two strong providers.

Digitalisation is not only a challenge for us. It is also an opportunity, as it is for all postal companies. While the demand for physical mail is decreasing, digital processes help boost efficiency and relieve employees of manual tasks, allowing them to focus on more engaging and meaningful tasks.

That said, at Quickmail firmly believe in the future of the letterbox. In a world overwhelmed by digital messages and newsletters, physical advertising remains the most effective. Studies show that printed advertising is perceived as more sustainable and leave a stronger impression. This is our opportunity : A well-filled letterbox puts a smile on the recipient's face.

Where does Quickmail specifically focus on innovation?

One of our biggest recent innovations was the launch of our new Quickmail app in January 2025. Acting as a smart assistant and co-pilot for our delivery personnel, the app significantly simplifies their work and optimises internal processes. It is especially valuable for new employees, helping them deliver more efficiently from day one.

But we’re not stopping there. Our innovation pipeline is full of ideas on how we can further leverage the app and our nationwide delivery network in even more versatile ways.

What message do you have for the employees and customers of Quickmail?

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our long-standing customers and partners for their trust and loyalty. Your support is invaluable to us. As I mentioned earlier, if you value competition in the Swiss postal market, Quickmail is your reliable partner for consignments. Many of our partnerships have lasted for ten years or more, and without this strong foundation, our success would not be possible.

And last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to our employees for their dedication and tireless efforts, no matter the weather.

I look forward to the years ahead at Quickmail and to actively shaping the future of letter delivery in Switzerland together with my team and our customers!

Thank you for the conversation, Claude.
